Man Arraigned In Court For Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery

Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna, a resident of Olokoro in the Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, was charged with four counts by a High Court sitting in Umuahia on Tuesday.

The charges included possessing guns (special provision) and armed robbery in violation of Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and guns Act, among other offenses that bordered on conspiracy.

Additional charges include attempted murder in violation of Criminal Code section 320(a) and malicious damage in violation of Criminal Code section 451(5)(g).

The defendant entered a not guilty plea to each of the four accusations when he appeared before the Umuahia High Court on Tuesday.

The defendant’s attorney requested that his client be granted bail, but the presiding judge, Justice K.C.J. Okereke, declined the request and postponed the trial until March 26, 2024.

Speaking to reporters, Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna and his group are accused of shooting Chinasa Ogbonna’s brother. Chinasa Ogbonna called Promise a threat to the Olokoro community, Abia, and Nigeria in general.

He claimed that the defendant had committed cultism, armed robbery, and other crimes, and that in the past, certain influential persons had always gotten him out of police custody.

He asked the witnesses to appear before the court and provide their testimony.
