Residents of Royal Gardens Estate along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in the Ajah area of Lagos State protested what they described as the unjust imposition of exorbitant service charges by the management of their estate developer, Trojan Estates.
The protest which took place on Thursday, was led by the estate executives.
The residents urged the estate developer and manager to be open and honest in deciding the annual service charges and discontinuing the use of bulk metering.
They pointed out that the bulk metering system led to frequent power outages in the estate.
During the peaceful protest, many residents in the estate expressed their concern over what they considered as exorbitant service, maintenance charges, and frequent disconnection of power supply due to the use of a lone bulk meter for the whole estate.

The PUNCH reports that following complaints over ‘indiscriminate billing’ raised by Nigerians, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission agreed to eliminate the practice of bulk billing for residential customers and replace it with individual metering and billing.
The chairman of Royal Gardens Estate, Anthony Ogbebor, stated that residents could confirm that the practice had not been discontinued since then.
