In a recent interview on Channels Television’s *Politics Today*, the Labour Party has reiterated its unwavering support for Peter Obi as the party’s candidate in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. The party’s National Vice Chairman, Ayo Olorunfemi, emphasized that the Labour Party remains the ideal platform for Obi to contest and secure a victory.
Despite facing internal challenges and pressures from some factions of his support base, Olorunfemi dismissed any notion of Obi leaving the party. He described such suggestions as “delusional” and asserted that true supporters of Obi, commonly referred to as the “Obidients,” would never advocate for his departure.
Olorunfemi highlighted the Labour Party’s commitment to social democracy, stressing that it is the only party aligned with the ideological principles that resonate with Obi’s vision for Nigeria. He expressed confidence that Obi’s candidature under the Labour Party banner is the best hope for addressing the nation’s pressing issues, including hunger and political instability.

Reflecting on Obi’s previous bid for the presidency in the 2023 election, Olorunfemi praised him as the best leader Nigeria has yet to have. He assured that, with divine support, Obi will emerge victorious in 2027. Furthermore, Olorunfemi acknowledged the ongoing efforts to resolve the party’s internal disputes, expressing optimism that the Labour Party will emerge stronger and more united.
The party is also considering holding a special convention to address vacant positions and further solidify its leadership structure. Olorunfemi mentioned that reconciliation processes are underway, aiming to reintegrate all factions and foster unity within the party.
As the Labour Party gears up for the 2027 elections, it remains steadfast in its support for Peter Obi, positioning him as the candidate capable of bringing about the much-needed change in Nigeria’s political landscape.
