Labour Halts Nationwide Strike for Five Days Amid Minimum Wage Negotiations

Organised Labour has opted to suspend its nationwide strike for a five-day period to facilitate uninterrupted discussions with the tripartite committee regarding the new national minimum wage.

A reliable source within the labour union, speaking on condition of anonymity to Vanguard, revealed this latest development. It follows recent deliberations between Labour leaders and high-ranking government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume.

During Monday night’s meeting, Akume affirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to exceed the proposed N60,000 minimum wage. He also provided assurance that workers participating in the strike would not face any repercussions.

Moreover, Akume announced that the tripartite committee would convene daily over the next week to finalize discussions on the new minimum wage.
