In a significant move for cross-border commerce, the government of Niger Republic officially opened its land border in Konni for operations, aligning with Nigeria’s decision to reopen the Illela border. The border, which had been closed for a period, was declared open at noon on Friday, marking a positive step towards economic collaboration between the two nations.
Nuhu Samaila, a source from Konni, Niger Republic, hailed the decision of the country’s leadership, noting that it reflects a responsive approach to the desires of the populace. He expressed optimism that the border reopening would bolster the economies of both countries by fostering increased trade activities.
This development follows Nigeria’s Customs Service compliance with directives to reopen all land and air borders across northern states, including the Konni-Illela border in Sokoto State. The move aims to facilitate lawful trade exchanges and enhance bilateral relations between Nigeria and Niger Republic.
