The Kaduna State House of Assembly has established a fact-finding committee tasked with investigating various aspects of the financial dealings, loans, and contract projects awarded during the tenure of former Governor Nasiru El-Rufai.
Governor Uba Sani, speaking during a recent town hall meeting, expressed concern over the substantial debt burden inherited from his predecessor’s administration. Governor Sani revealed that the state inherited a staggering sum of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities from the previous administration, which severely strained the state’s financial resources.
Despite these challenges, Governor Sani emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.

The newly established committee, formed during a plenary session on Tuesday, will conduct a comprehensive investigation into various aspects of the former administration’s financial activities. In addition to scrutinizing Governor El-Rufai’s financial decisions, the committee will also examine the role of his top associate and Senior Counselor on Investment, Jimi Lawal.
Furthermore, the committee has been tasked with inviting key figures, including former speakers of the 8th and 9th Assembly, commissioners of finance, former Managing Directors of Kaduna Markets, and Commissioners of Budget and Planning, among others, to provide insights into the financial dealings and project implementations spanning from 2015 to 2023.
This proactive step by the Kaduna State Assembly underscores the importance of accountability and transparency in governance, ensuring that public funds are utilized responsibly for the benefit of the citizens.
