Julius Abure, who was affirmed as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) by the Federal High Court in Abuja, has extended an olive branch to the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, urging him to join in efforts to unite the party. Abure emphasized that the court’s ruling was not just a personal victory but a win for democracy and justice, solidifying the party’s leadership under the rule of law.
The court, presided over by Justice Nwite, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Julius Abure as the legitimate chairman of the Labour Party. This ruling also validated the party’s March 2024 Nnewi convention, where the current national leadership was elected.
In a statement titled “A New Dawn for the Labour Party: Victory, Forgiveness, and Unity,” Abure reflected on the long legal battle and the attempts made by some individuals to challenge the party’s leadership. He offered forgiveness to those who had tried to undermine the party and engage in character assassination, while calling for repentance and restitution from those involved in such actions.
