As the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) draws closer, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) remains silent on the directive issued by the House of Representatives to extend the registration deadline. The House had unanimously urged JAMB to reopen the registration portal for an additional two weeks, citing concerns over economic hardships faced by some candidates.
Despite this call, JAMB has not responded or implemented the extension, leaving many candidates anxious about their ability to participate in the examination. The House’s directive aimed to ensure wider coverage and participation in this year’s UTME, especially for candidates who were unable to register within the initial timeline due to financial constraints.
In the midst of this uncertainty, JAMB is set to conduct a mock UTME on March 7, 2024, for registered candidates. While candidates prepare for this mock examination, the board has reminded them to print their notification slips to access important details such as examination centres, venues, and timings.

The mock UTME serves as an opportunity for candidates to familiarize themselves with the Computer-Based Test (CBT) environment and practice ahead of the main examination. However, JAMB emphasizes the importance of integrity during the examination, warning against any form of malpractice and reminding candidates of the prohibited items within examination halls.
As candidates await further updates on the registration deadline, JAMB’s silence on the House’s directive raises concerns among stakeholders. The board’s response in the coming days will be crucial in addressing the anxieties of candidates and ensuring a fair and inclusive UTME process for all.
