The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has expressed serious concern over the worsening health condition of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In an urgent call for action, the group has demanded Kanu’s immediate release, warning of potential severe consequences if his health further deteriorates while in custody.
Emma Powerful, the IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, issued a statement accusing several parties, including the Nigerian government, judiciary, Department of State Services (DSS), and certain Igbo politicians, of conspiring to harm Kanu. IPOB believes this situation poses a significant risk to his life.
The group emphasized the grave implications of any harm befalling Kanu while in detention, warning that both Nigeria and those responsible would face serious repercussions. IPOB stressed that the only acceptable outcome is the unconditional release of their leader, especially in light of court rulings and his critical health condition.
The group also called for international intervention, urging global human rights organizations to step in and ensure Kanu’s freedom. Despite ongoing concerns about the legality of his detention and his declining well-being, IPOB made it clear that their fight for Biafran self-determination remains unwavering, regardless of Kanu’s circumstances.
