In light of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests across Nigeria, the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a cautionary statement urging Ndigbo to stay away from these demonstrations. The pro-Biafran group emphasized the importance of Ndigbo being vigilant about their security and safeguarding their lives and property during this tumultuous period.
According to IPOB, along with other Igbo organizations such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo, there have been clear warnings against participation in the protests. The group cited a concerning security report indicating potential targeted attacks against Ndigbo by security agencies during the protests.
Emma Powerful, the spokesperson for IPOB, released a statement on Thursday elaborating on these threats. He mentioned that there are plans to incite violence in the South-East, using criminal elements as a pretext for security forces to launch attacks on Ndigbo.
Powerful noted, “Ndigbo should remain cautious, understanding the heightened risks they face across Nigeria. False accusations by the Federal Government implicating IPOB and Mr. Peter Obi as sponsors of the protest are part of a larger, dangerous agenda targeting Ndigbo for elimination.”

#EndbadGovernance: Igbo Elders Disapprove Participation in National Protest
Despite the nationwide economic challenges, IPOB stressed that Ndigbo should only engage in protests that directly concern their community, such as the call for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and a UN-supervised referendum for Biafra.
The statement urged President Bola Tinubu to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and set a date for the Biafran referendum, allowing Biafrans to determine their future. IPOB advised Ndigbo to be on high alert, protecting their properties from potential looters and ensuring their safety against any aggressive actions during the protests.
“Every Igbo person across the East, North, and West must prioritize their security during this period. Ndigbo are at high risk of facing federal brutality during these peaceful protests. Avoid becoming a victim,” the statement concluded.
