Wives of deceased command officers have received food and cash assistance valued at millions of Naria from the Police Officers Wives Association, Imo State Chapter.
Yesterday, at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri, a gesture was carried out in honor of International Women’s Day, with one hundred beneficiaries.
Speaking, Imo POWA Chairperson and state police commissioner’s wife, Mrs. Jemimah Danjuma Aboki, stated that the occasion offered a chance to uplift and assist POWA members, particularly the less fortunate widows among them.
She said, “this auspicious occasion with the theme: inspiring, Inclusion, Valuing and empowering women is an opportunity to honor and appreciate the selfless sacrifices and countless contributions of women, particularly Police officer’s wives, who are the backbone of their families, in policing our contemporary society and enhancing the overall security of our dear Nation.
“I salute the unwavering courage and determination shown by the wives of deceased and injured Police Officers amid all difficulties and encourage them not to relent. Our thoughts, support, and prayers are with them.”
“Knowing full well that; ‘if you empower a woman, you empower a Nation’, the Police Officers Wife Association (POWA), Imo State Chapter, in honour of this historic event and a mark of victory, will empower the wives of one hundred (100) less privileged Police Officers on this special day with foodstuffs and financial support to ameliorate their suffering.

“I am optimistic that this empowerment will go a long way in providing solace to the families of less privileged officers and serve as a morale booster for serving officers to discharge their duties professionally and effectively.
“I therefore urge them to use them to use the financial assistance to establish petty businesses that will support them in taking care of their children and families.” she added.
Speaking at the event as a special guest, the Police Commissioner, CP Aboki Danjuma applauded the Imo POWA for their selfless sacrifices and support to their husband and the command in general. He said, “On this International Women’s Day, I want to specially appreciate the members of POWA and LAPOWA for being a beacon of hope and empowerment to us. Your remarkable courage, determination and support inspire Police Officers across the Federation in the discharge of their lawful duties.
I want to assure you that the command will continue to support you in your unflinching dedication to empowering the wives of less priveleged officers and enhancing their families standards of living this day and beyond.”
The beneficiaries receiving the empowerment goods, as well as the POWA members’ performance of ethnic dances and plays, were among the event’s highlights.
