INEC Announces Date for Anambra Governorship Election in 2025

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially set the date for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election. According to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the election will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025. This announcement was made during a meeting with political party representatives at the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

Prof. Yakubu stated, “The last governorship election in Anambra was held on November 6, 2021. As the tenure of the current administration comes to an end, the Commission has approved that the next election will be held on November 8, 2025.”

In line with electoral guidelines, INEC will issue a formal notice for the election on November 13, 2024. The schedule for political party primaries has been set from March 20 to April 10, 2025, while the candidate nomination process will open on April 18, 2025, and close on May 12, 2025.

Furthermore, political campaigns will officially begin on June 11, 2025, and must end by midnight on November 6, 2025, ahead of election day. Voting will take place across all 5,720 polling units in Anambra State.

INEC also announced plans to roll out other important activities in the coming weeks, including voter registration, transfer of voting details, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

For detailed information, INEC will soon publish the full timetable and schedule of activities on their website and social media platforms.
