Imo Economic Development Initiative To Uzodimma: “You Didn’t Disappoint Us”

The Imo Economic Development Initiative (IEDI), which is pleased with Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State’s stellar performance in his first four years in office, has stated that the Governor lived up to their realistic expectations as supporters of the private sector.

The body, which is made up of professionals from all socioeconomic backgrounds, reached its decision over the weekend when its members went to Governor Uzodimma’s office at Government House Owerri to inform him of their preparedness to assist his administration going forward into its second term.

The visit was a follow-up to the IEDI team’s Zoom meeting on Friday, March 1, 2024, where all members—both domestic and foreign—had the chance to assess the first four years of Governor Uzodimma’s administration and recommend additional measures to be taken into consideration that would help to strengthen the foundation the Governor laid in his first term. The group is led by Prof. Maurice Iwu, a former National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

On behalf of all 40 of their members, representing a variety of professional backgrounds, Prof. Iwu thanked Governor Uzodimma for making time to meet with the 10-person delegation assigned to inform and engage with the Governor of the outcomes of their enlarged meeting

Prof. Iwu spoke vehemently about how IEDI is prepared to work with the State Government indefinitely to advance Imo’s economy as a whole.

He defined the organization as a think tank of Imo citizens, primarily composed of academics, businesspeople, women in the private sector, and technocrats who had held positions of government in the past.

According to Prof. Iwu, during the Zoom meeting, the group highlighted around nine policy pillars of Governor Uzodimma’s administration, some of which they believe might be implemented with assistance from the business sector for the benefit of Imo State.

In his reply, Governor Uzodimma thanked the organization for its members’ unwavering support of his administration and said he would be happy to collaborate with them to help Imo State achieve its targeted economic growth.

The governor thanked the group for coming to congratulate him on the start of his second term as governor of Imo State, saying it was an honor to meet with them again.

He also praised their commitment to working together to create a strong economy and pledged to keep working with the organization “in our collective pursuit of economic prosperity for all.”

The group was received by the governor along with the deputy governor of Imo state, lady Chinyere Ekomaru, the governor’s principal secretary, Dr. Irene Chima, and the governor’s chief of staff, Chief Cosmos Iwu and Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie, respectively.
