The sale and use of illegal narcotics, as well as other forms of criminal activity, are targets of the state government of Abia.
Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu stated during a news conference at Government House, Umuahia, that the trafficking and use of illegal substances is the main factor behind kidnapping and the foundation of all criminal activity committed by residents of the state. Drug lords were told to avoid Abia State or face consequences, as he issued a warning that the state was not a safe haven for illicit activity.
Engineer Emetu issued a warning to people who continued to trade illegal narcotics throughout the state’s 17 council areas, directing them to either stop immediately, change their ways, or leave the state, in a news release that was signed by Mr. Chukwudi Eke Mba, the Chief news Secretary to the Deputy Governor. He restated Governor Otti’s intention to protect young people and make sure they have a positive impact on the state’s growth.
Deputy Governor Emetu praised Mr. Chukwunenye Alajemba, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, and Abia State Command, the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for their tough operations that produced a favorable outcome.
The agency, working with the Abia State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), recently conducted a successful joint operation on a facility at Arochukwu Street by Calabar Road, Umuahia, and arrested one Ms. Adaobi Nweke, daughter of the late Jokin Jagwa, a notorious criminal whose illegal activities had spanned nearly two decades in the state, according to Mr. Chukwunenye Alajemba, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, in his speech. He said that she was in possession of several illegal substances, including heroin, cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, and cash totaling more than five hundred thousand naira.
He verified that numerous young people had been arrested and multiple illegal narcotics had been seized in a second operation that took place at a location named Down Below, which is located behind Okigwe Park Umuahia. He stated that the main contributor to criminality and other violent crimes in Abia State and throughout Nigeria is the usage of illegal substances. Alajemba urged parents to caution their kids and wards against using illegal narcotics since those who are caught will be subject to the harshest penalties available.
