Igbo youths have expressed their appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), emphasizing the positive impact it could have on the Ndigbo people. They urged the government to ensure its proper management to maximize its benefits for the region.
The youth group, led by Comrade Igboayaka Igboayaka, also commended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, for his significant role in facilitating the passage of the SEDC bill. They recognized his efforts in ensuring that the bill became a reality, stressing that the final version signed into law differed from previous attempts.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Igboayaka urged President Tinubu to consider the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), as a political move that could bring happiness and unity to the Ndigbo people.

The youths praised the cordial relationship between President Tinubu and Hon. Kalu but expressed disapproval of remarks made by Dr. Josef Onoh, who downplayed Kalu’s role in the establishment of the SEDC. Igboayaka argued that such statements could foster disunity among Igbo political elites, adding that Kalu’s contributions deserve full recognition.
Highlighting the significance of passing a bill into law, the group emphasized that Kalu’s dedication was key to the success of the SEDC bill. They thanked President Tinubu for signing the bill into law and called on him to launch additional developmental initiatives for the South East region. Furthermore, the youths reiterated their call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu through a peaceful, political solution, noting that it would strengthen ties within the Igbo community.
