Mrs. Uchechi Kanu, the wife of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has revealed that Igbo politicians, governors, and political figures are actively working towards securing the release of her husband despite his continued detention by the Department of State Service (DSS).
Expressing her gratitude during a live program on Radio Biafra, Mrs. Kanu thanked various Igbo leaders for their efforts in advocating for her husband’s release. She specifically acknowledged the support of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who facilitated her recent visit to her husband in DSS custody.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been held by the DSS since 2021 for allegedly violating his bail conditions in 2017. Mrs. Kanu’s visit to her husband on April 16 marked a significant moment, as it was her first access to him in a considerable period.

He emphasized the importance of supporting individuals facing legal challenges, particularly in ensuring their access to family members during detention.
The collaborative efforts of Igbo leaders in advocating for Kanu’s release reflect a unified commitment to justice and human rights within the region. Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, the support from political figures and grassroots activists signifies a collective determination to address concerns surrounding Kanu’s detention.
As discussions continue, Mrs. Kanu remains hopeful that dialogue and advocacy will lead to a resolution that prioritizes justice and fairness for her husband and others affected by similar circumstances.
