House of Rep to Acquire New Aircraft for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima

In response to recent mechanical issues with the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has called for the urgent purchase of new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The recommendation comes after a series of incidents, including President Tinubu’s forced use of a chartered plane from the Netherlands to Saudi Arabia in April and Vice President Shettima’s mid-flight detour due to a technical fault en route to the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas.

The committee’s report, issued following a comprehensive investigation into the airworthiness of the PAF, highlighted the critical need for reliable presidential aircraft. Hon. Ahmed Satomi (APC-Borno), chairman of the committee, emphasized the potential risks to the president’s safety posed by the current fleet’s technical issues.

“The Committee strongly recommends the procurement of two additional aircraft to ensure the safety and efficiency of presidential travel,” the report stated. “This move is not only essential for security but also cost-effective in the long term, providing a suitable and comfortable mode of transport for the highest offices in Nigeria.”

The report has been submitted to President Tinubu for immediate action, underscoring the importance of addressing this issue to prevent any foreseen or unforeseen mishaps that could have severe national consequences.
