Gunmen Attack Imo State Secretariat, Killing Two Vigilantes and Setting Buildings Ablaze

In a tragic incident on Tuesday night, gunmen attacked the headquarters of Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area in Imo State, killing two vigilante members on duty. The attackers also set multiple vehicles and parts of the council building on fire.

 

The assault occurred around 8:30 p.m., with eyewitnesses reporting that the gunmen arrived at the secretariat, opening fire indiscriminately. The two vigilantes guarding the premises were fatally shot, and the assailants proceeded to torch the council headquarters.

 

One witness described the scene, stating, “Two security men at the Isiala-Mbano council headquarters were shot dead. The attackers set a significant portion of the building on fire, along with several parked vehicles. Many others managed to escape, though some sustained injuries.”

 

The violent attack has created widespread fear in Umuelemai, the local government headquarters, prompting many residents to flee to nearby villages for safety.

In response to the incident, the Imo State Police Command has deployed tactical teams to apprehend those responsible. The state’s police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, confirmed the deployment and assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

 

This brutal attack is part of a disturbing trend of violence in the region, heightening concerns about security and safety in Imo State. The community remains on edge as authorities continue their investigation into this devastating event.
