To support Abia State natives’ access to higher education, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti has approved bursary grants to be given to law students throughout the state.
Okey Kanu, the state commissioner for information and culture, made this announcement after the Executive Council met recently in Umuahia. The commissioner highlighted the approval for the renovation of 170 primary schools, or 10 schools per local government area, as evidence of the state government’s ongoing commitment to education.

In secondary education, 51 schools are scheduled for renovation, with three schools each local government district.

Speaking about the infrastructure improvements, Kanu listed the attributes that will make the updated schools unique, such as staff quarters, gatehouses, caretaker’s homes, head teacher lodgings, and primary school childcare facilities. Nevertheless, amid these encouraging developments, the commissioner revealed that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has delisted a number of Abia State schools because of exam misconduct.
Private schools are reportedly the most affected institutions. The administration expresses disappointment about the state of affairs but reaffirms its dedication to maintaining standards and correcting anomalies in the educational system. In keeping with his developmental agenda, Governor Otti will officially launch major road construction projects. He will formally begin work on the 30-kilometer Arochukwu – Ndiokereke – Ozuabam Road on March 20. On March 26, he will start work on the 11.5-kilometer Nunya – Eluama – Isuikwuato Road.
