Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has mandated a thorough audit of the financial records of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) over the past three years.
The directive was issued to the State Auditor General during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Caretaker Committee Chairmen of the LGAs. The event took place at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
Governor Fubara emphasized that the audit aims to ensure financial transparency and accountability among the local councils. This initiative is expected to serve as a standard for the incoming chairmen, promoting responsible financial management within the LGAs.

The governor also instructed an investigation into the tenure of the outgoing local government chairmen. This probe is part of a broader effort to assess past administrative performance and rectify any discovered discrepancies.
Addressing the newly appointed caretaker chairmen, Governor Fubara urged them to prioritize the interests of their constituents. He stressed the importance of their roles and the trust placed in them by the government.
“Your primary duty is to serve and protect the interests of your people,” Fubara stated. “Demonstrate that the government’s decision to appoint you was the right one by leading with integrity and accountability.”
