Governor Alex Otti Orders Expansion of Umuahia Mega Bus Terminal Roads for Improved Traffic Flow

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has directed the contractor in charge of the ongoing Umuahia mega bus terminal project to widen the roads surrounding the terminal, ensuring smoother vehicular movement. This directive came during the inspection visit of the governor to the construction site, where he expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress but noted the need for minor adjustments.

Governor Alex Otti highlighted that the contractors were performing well and adhering to the project’s timeline. However, he pointed out specific areas requiring modifications to enhance traffic flow and improve infrastructure, particularly around the Cooperative roundabout, where road expansion and junction improvements are necessary.

Speaking on the project’s scope, Governor Otti revealed that the Umuahia mega bus terminal is modeled after the successful Oshodi transport terminal in Lagos State. The facility will integrate multiple transport systems, including buses and railways, while featuring shopping centers, hotels, children’s playgrounds, and other social amenities designed to make it a hub for both transportation and leisure activities.

“The idea is to replicate what was done in Oshodi here in Umuahia, creating a central point where the railway, buses, and other transport systems converge. This will not only streamline transport but also attract businesses, as there will be spaces for hotels, shopping malls, and recreation,” Otti explained.

Governor Otti further stated that while the project may not generate immediate revenue, it is designed to yield significant long-term financial benefits. More importantly, he emphasized the need to organize the capital city and provide residents with a functional, attractive space that reflects Umuahia’s status as the state capital.

During a church service at Dunamis Church, Umuahia, earlier in the day, Governor Otti thanked the congregation for their support during the election. He reassured them that his administration remains committed to prioritizing the welfare of the people, as demonstrated by recent efforts to clear outstanding salary arrears owed by previous administrations.

“We are putting the people first in everything we do. That’s why, even though resources are limited, we’ve prioritized paying workers their due wages,” Otti stated.

The service concluded with a prayer led by the church’s resident pastor, Pastor Anthony Itodo, who called for divine wisdom and blessings for Governor Otti and his administration, asking for continued stability and growth in Abia State.

Governor Otti was accompanied by key government officials, including Hon. Obi Aguocha, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Nmerekini, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, and Pastor Caleb Ajagba (PhD).
