Notwithstanding political affiliations, South East governors are collaborating to accomplish regional integration, according to Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, governor of Abia State.
When addressing a delegation of the South East Council of traditional rulers and Igbo Archbishops and Bishops, led by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, Otti said that general concerns like security continue to be of utmost importance to the Governors because no significant progress can be made in an environment of fear.
He gave his word that the South East Governors have prioritized governance over party affiliation as they have continued to meet and debate issues impacting the area.
“I can assure you that we are working together irrespective of our different political parties. We have made everybody to understand that after political party election and litigations, governance takes the front seat. So, we have continued to meet. We will be meeting regularly to talk about regional issues and all.
“Anyhow you look at it, we must deal with security as a region if not as a country. What feeds insecurity, to a large extent, is unemployment and poverty. It also feeds banditry and we need to do everything possible to ensure that our people have something to do.” He said.
