Google may soon rename “Bard,” a chatbot driven by generative AI, to “Gemini.” Over the past several months, the tech giant has been steadily adding new functionality to its AI chatbot powered by Gemini. The most recent update added the ability to generate images.
The information was obtained from a recent post on X (formerly Twitter) by Android app developer Dylan Roussel, which is supported by earlier 9to5Google claims indicating that Google Bard may soon be rebranded to Gemini. A changelog dated February 7, 2024, which appears to have been leaked, suggests the name change and provides some information about planned additions.

As can be seen in the image in the post, we might also get to see the Advanced tier powered by Gemini Ultra, the company’s most advanced large language model to date which might even surpass OpenAI’s GPT-4 that powers ChatGPT Plus and Microsoft Copilot.
According to the changelog, Gemini Advanced will be behind a paywall. According to Google, its most potent large language model is able to “perform complex tasks like logical reasoning, coding, creative collaboration, and following nuanced instructions.” In the “upcoming months,” the company appears to be expanding the functionality of Gemini Ultra, enhancing its capacity to thoroughly examine files, data, papers, and other materials.
The release of the Gemini app for Android smartphones is, nevertheless, the most intriguing aspect. According to Google, the new software may “assist with Google AI on your phone to learn in new ways, write thank you notes, plan events, and more.” It appears that YouTube, Maps, Gmail, and other Google services will all be linked with Gemini. iOS users may need to utilize the Google app in order to test Gemini, while Android will receive a new app of its own.
