On Friday, the inaugural contingent of 423 pilgrims hailing from Lagos State commenced their journey to Saudi Arabia for the revered 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.
Bid farewell at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the send-off was led by Chairman Jalal Arabi of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, accompanied by other dignitaries.
In his address, Arabi underscored the exceptional privilege bestowed upon the pilgrims, emphasizing the significance of this divine opportunity. “To be chosen for Hajj is a profound blessing,” he remarked. “It may mark the pinnacle of one’s spiritual journey or the commencement thereof. Therefore, seize this moment with utmost reverence.”
Arabi implored the pilgrims to uphold Nigeria’s honor by adhering to Saudi Arabia’s regulations. “Respect the laws and guidelines set forth. By doing so, you honor both countries,” he urged.

In advocating for a cordial rapport with officials, Arabi stressed the importance of peaceful resolution in times of discord. “Maintain harmony and cooperation. Challenges, if any, must be resolved amicably, recognizing our shared humanity,” he emphasized.
Before departure, Arabi extended prayers for a safe voyage and urged the pilgrims to beseech blessings for Nigeria and its leadership, notably President Bola Tinubu, whose facilitation ensured Nigerian participation in the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the pilgrims, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Olanrewaju Layode, commended Arabi for his affectionate gesture and counsel.
