Fire at Murtala Muhammed Airport Prompts FAAN to Divert Flight Operations

A fire outbreak at Lagos Airport has prompted the Federal Airport Authority to redirect all flight operations from Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 to the D wing. Engineers swiftly disconnected power from the affected E wing to contain the blaze that ignited around 5:29 am on Thursday.

Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confirmed that smoke initially emerged from the E54 bridge, sparking panic among airport staff and travelers. The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services team promptly responded, restoring order after a brief moment of chaos.

In an official statement, Orah stated, “Smoke was detected billowing from the E54 Bridge, leading electrical engineers to immediately cut off power to the entire E Wing.” She added, “Initial suspicions point to sparks from an electrical unit as the cause, but a thorough investigation is ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.”

The situation was swiftly brought under control by 06:41 am, with efforts underway to ventilate the affected area. Meanwhile, all flight operations at Terminal 1 have been redirected to the D Wing. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
