Former Kaduna state governor Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai shed light on the substantial government spending on petrol subsidies under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, amounting to trillions of naira since May 29th, 2023.
Speaking at a Capacity Building Workshop in Maiduguri, El-Rufai emphasized the impact of these subsidies on petrol prices, highlighting the contrast with diesel prices, which have soared above N1,000 per litre in some areas, while petrol remains between N600 to 750 per litre.
El-Rufai underscored the importance of pragmatic leadership, emphasizing the need for flexibility in policy implementation. He cited the recent reintroduction of fuel subsidies by the current administration as an example of adaptive governance in response to evolving challenges.
