Federal Lawmaker In Ebonyi Disburses ₦40m To 200 Indigent Students

Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Senate Chief Whip representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, distributed around forty million naira (₦40,000,000) to two hundred poor students from Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone in Ebonyi State over the weekend. The disbursement took place in Mbeke Isheke, Ebonyi’s local government district. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, Governor of Ebonyi State, opened the presentation of cheques to the students by commending Senator Nwebonyi for his excellent representation and encouraging leaders at all levels to adopt his humanitarian dispositions.

“I’m very much delighted with the display of solidarity by the people of Mbeke and the capacity shown by Senator Nwebonyi. As young leaders, so many people thought that we would fail, but today it’s a celebration galore.

“Senator Nwebonyi is not a jealous type because he is highly educated and intelligent. He is not afraid of building young people, unlike many other leaders who feel that those they trained may rise against them. He knows the value of education, hence, this scholarship program.

“Therefore, the beneficiaries must also show gratitude by training others when they succeed. You must endeavour to excel in your studies to justify this huge investment made by Distinguished Senator Nwebonyi.”

In his remarks, the Senate Chief Whip stated that he is investing in destitute pupils to reduce school dropouts in his senatorial district. Nwebonyi asked the students to use the money for its intended purpose and not divert it, as doing so jeopardises their future.

“About 200 students today got their school fees. Those doing LLB law got 150.000 each, those doing medicine also got 150.000 each those in post-graduate studies got 200.000 while those students at their clinical stages at AE FUNAI, who are on the verge of dropping out as a result of accumulated unpaid school fees got a total of six million seven hundred and twenty thousand Naira if you put them together it will give you a total of forty million Naira (N40m).

“What is the motive? Our motive is to guarantee our tomorrow because the best investment we can make is the investment in humans, we are having challenges today in society, social vices those youths involved in the social vices are not educated if they had the opportunity to be educated probably they wouldn’t have indulged in social vices. We are making this intervention to make sure that no student drops out of school from Ebonyi North senatorial district”, he said.
