A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted an interim forfeiture order for properties worth N11.14 billion allegedly connected to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke issued the order based on an ex-parte application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The properties, primarily situated in upscale areas of Abuja, are suspected to have been acquired by Emefiele through fraudulent means.
The EFCC alleges that Emefiele, along with three CBN staff members—Makinde Olubunmi, Obayemi Teben, and Adebayo Akomolafe—used their positions to secure foreign exchange allocations for various companies in exchange for kickbacks.
The court has directed the EFCC to publish the forfeiture order in a newspaper to allow interested parties to contest the decision before a final forfeiture order is issued. The case is set for a hearing on June 21.
