Federal Government Declares Thursday as Additional Holiday for Eid-El-Fitr

The Federal Government of Nigeria has designated Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an extra public holiday to honor Eid-El-Fitr celebrations. Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, revealed this decision via an official statement on Tuesday.

 

This move aims to recognize the significance of Eid-El-Fitr and allow citizens to observe the religious occasion fully. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extends congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for completing a spiritually enriching month of fasting, echoing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to a safe and prosperous Nigeria.

 

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has confirmed the continuation of fasting on Tuesday, with Eid-El-Fitr celebrations scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, to mark the start of the new Islamic month.

Eid-il-Fitr: FG declares Tuesday, Wednesday public holidays

Earlier reports had indicated that the FG had declared Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays for Eid-El-Fitr celebrations. Additionally, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as Eid el Fitr Day following the non-sighting of the moon.

 

Eid-El-Fitr, symbolizing the end of Ramadan’s fasting period, holds significant cultural and religious importance for Muslims globally.
