The Federal Government is on track to significantly enhance electricity production, aiming to elevate the current 4000 megawatts to a robust 6000 within the next three to six months, all in a bid to ameliorate power supply across the nation.
Speaking in Abuja on Monday during a crucial meeting with heads of power agencies and industry stakeholders, Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, outlined the ambitious plan.
“Increasing our megawatt capacity to a minimum of 6000 to 6500 within the next three to six months is imperative,” stated Adelabu. “We’ve previously reached 5700 megawatts in November 2021, and with the existing infrastructure, we’re confident in achieving even higher outputs.”
The Minister affirmed that numerous power generation companies possess the requisite capacity to deliver the targeted 6000 megawatts, with the main hindrance being the irregular supply of gas, which is vital for electricity production.

“We’re working tirelessly to ensure stable electricity supply becomes a reality,” Adelabu emphasized. “The government is fully committed to addressing the underlying issues in the sector, with a focus on enhancing service delivery and guaranteeing consistent improvement in supply.”
Adelabu underscored the government’s determination to hold Electricity Distribution Companies accountable for their performance, stressing that their cooperation is vital for the success of the broader efforts to revamp the power sector.
“We’re leaving no stone unturned in our quest to achieve stable power supply, which is essential for economic growth, industrial development, and improving the overall quality of life for Nigerians,” concluded Adelabu.
