Enugu Teachers to Receive N1.9 Billion in Leave Allowances with Governor’s Approval

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has sanctioned the disbursement of N1,912,187,753.82 to settle four years’ worth of accumulated leave allowances for public primary school teachers. This decision aligns with Governor Mbah’s commitment to enhance the welfare and productivity of educators in the state.

This substantial approval underscores the administration’s dedication to ensuring that teachers receive all their entitled benefits. It also aligns with the 260 smart green school policy, aimed at providing quality education to Enugu’s children by ensuring teachers are well-motivated.

Earlier, Governor Mbah extended the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage to include primary school teachers and local government workers, reflecting his focus on comprehensive welfare improvements.

In another commendation, the South East Media Forum has recognized the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) as the top-performing UBEB in the South East Zone. This accolade highlights the effective leadership of ENSUBEB under the guidance of Dr. Gabriel Ajah, who was honored with a distinguished merit award.

Okolo emphasized that ENSUBEB’s high performance is a testament to putting the right people in the right roles.

Dr. Ajah, responding to the recognition, lauded Governor Mbah as a “disruptive innovator” who has shown exceptional commitment to education. He highlighted the introduction of the smart schools policy and the allocation of 33% of the state’s 2024 budget to the education sector as key initiatives driving educational excellence in Enugu.

The Board, according to Dr. Ajah, is driven by core values such as disruptive innovation, institutional capacity, responsive citizenship, excellence, character, competence, and teamwork, in alignment with the governor’s vision for quality basic education.
