The Enugu State Government has announced a substantial investment of N183bn aimed at improving infrastructure across the state. This funding will facilitate the construction of 141 urban roads and 20 rural roads within the three senatorial zones. Additionally, the state is set to advance its educational facilities by funding 133 new smart schools, supplementing the existing 127 under construction, ensuring each political ward has access to one.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji, provided a detailed overview of the road projects. Key initiatives include:
– Dualisation of the 41.3km Abakpa Nike-Opi-Nsukka Road with bridges.
– Dualisation of Penocks Junction – Nike Lake Road to T-Junction Flyover.
– Construction of bridges on Nomeh-Mburubu-Nara Road.
– Development of Umabi-Ehuhe Achi, Nomeh-Oduma Road, Mburubu-Nkereffi Road, and Amodu-Akpugo Road.
Additional road projects span various regions, including Iheaka-Ibagwa Road, Ibagwa-Itchi-Unadu-Alor Agu-Ibeje Road, Amagunze-Ihuokpara-Ugbawka Road, and many others, ensuring comprehensive coverage of Emene, Thinkers Corner, Abakpa, and other key areas.
The government has approved funding for 133 additional smart schools, bringing the total to 260. This initiative is part of the administration’s commitment to providing one smart school per political ward, fostering advanced educational opportunities across the state.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, and the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Aka Eze Aka, revealed ongoing efforts to enhance security through hi-tech surveillance camera installations. Moreover, there are plans to upgrade the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

In agriculture, the Mbah administration has established nearly 200,000 hectares in its Land Bank to support agricultural purposes in the state’s Produce Cities. Key agricultural projects include:
– Leasing 15,000 hectares at Ikem Nkwo to Ugwu Anama Farms for crop cultivation.
– Allocating 2,000 hectares at Eha-Amufu to Atlantico Farms for crop production and a feed mill.
– Leasing 20,000 hectares to Sujimoto Group for rice cultivation and agro-industrial park development.
– Allocating 7,221 hectares to Fungtai Company for economic tree planting and crop farming.
The state also plans to revitalize the Songhai Farms Heneke in Ezeagu LGA through Britednuel Agro Limited and partners. Furthermore, the government supports the Federal Government’s cassava to bioethanol initiative by cultivating 1,000 hectares across Aninri, Nkanu East, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs.
The Biotechnology Industrial Park, a collaborative project between the Federal Government, Enugu State, and Biosource Technologies Ltd, is under construction at Egede/Affa in Udi LGA. This initiative underscores the state’s commitment to technological and industrial growth.
