In a coordinated security operation in Enugu State, joint forces comprising soldiers, police, and Department of State Services (DSS) personnel engaged and neutralized four alleged members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The operation, carried out on Wednesday, also led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition.
A statement from Governor Peter Mbah’s media office detailed that the operation targeted a suspected ESN camp in Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area, after intelligence suggested plans to disrupt the peace in parts of the state, including the capital. Some suspects reportedly fled into the surrounding bushland with gunshot wounds.
According to verified security sources, an ESN commander, wanted for his operations across neighboring states, was apprehended during an intense standoff. The commander is said to have directed security forces to various hideouts where arms, charms, and other dangerous items were stored.
