Enugu Police Raid Kidnappers’ Hideout: Victim Rescued, Two Suspects Neutralized

The Enugu State Police Command carried out a successful raid on a kidnappers’ den in Nokpa-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area on October 17, 2024. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping, Distress Response, and Special Intervention Squads stormed the hideout, resulting in a gunfight with the kidnappers.

 

During the exchange, two suspects were neutralized while others fled with gunshot wounds. The police rescued a male victim, who had been kidnapped on September 27, 2024, in Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. The victim, identified as a personal assistant to a public figure, was unharmed.

 

Police recovered one G-3 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, and 125 rounds of live ammunition from the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N40 million for the victim’s release. The group is believed to be responsible for multiple kidnappings across Enugu metropolis.

The Enugu State Government has since demolished the buildings used for these criminal activities. Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, commended the officers’ efforts and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting violent crimes in the state. He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement.
