Enugu police operatives, Awkunanaw division on May 7, 2024, arrested one David Ogah Bassey,31, aka “Onye Army”, while his cohorts escaped. One locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol was recovered from him.
His arrest followed a report from a tricyclist who alleged that a gang of 3 armed robbers diverted and robbed him of his cash, phone, and other belongings while conveying them to Garriki, Awkunanaw, Enugu.
The victim led the detectives to the scene, and the suspect, upon sighting them, attempted to escape but was apprehended.
Similarly, Operatives of the Oji-River division working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group arrested Akabue Favour,18, and Obayi Chiemezie,19, both residents of Trans-Ekulu.
The suspects are alleged to have used the toy guns to snatch now recovered car from a male suspect, robbing him of his cash, handset, and other belongings at Amaetiti-Akwu in Achi Oji-River LGA.
They were given a hot chase and apprehended after the car skidded off the road into the bush.
Recovered from them include 2 imitation revolver pistols, a snatched Honda car, a syringe containing a liquid substance suspected to be acid, and other incriminating items.
