The Coal City Half Marathon will be held on May 4th in Enugu State, as part of the state government’s initiative to encourage physical health and sporting culture.
Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, commissioner of youth and sports development, made the announcement yesterday, stating that the state has already started holding night games at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
He claimed that the state’s status as the safest in the nation is due to Governor Mba’s enormous advancements in the field of security.
The commissioner encouraged sports enthusiasts to take advantage of the opportunity by signing up for the sports festival, regardless of whether they are professional or amateur athletes, as it was intended to revive the spirit of the “huge sporting culture” the state is known for. The commissioner said the half marathon would travel through the city and parks.
In addition to revealing that there would be prizes for participants to win, he also revealed that the first and second runners-up in each category would receive 500 and 300,000 naira, respectively, and that the winners, both male and female, would receive a million naira each.
