Enugu Governor’s Wife Saves Premature Baby

Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the wife of Enugu State’s governor, formed the Custos Care Foundation, which has given a new life to a newborn named Nkechi. Mrs. Rapuluchukwu Mmedo of Obune Inyi, Oji River LGA, and her baby were eventually freed from the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital’s newborn Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Enugu after 42 days of life-saving medical care.

This was despite the fact that the baby’s parents called her Nkechi after the governor’s wife, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, in recognition of her lifesaving intervention. Born prematurely to an impoverished family at 31 weeks and three days gestation due to cervical incompetence, and lacking the vast resources to think of preserving the baby, they had already given up on the baby’s survival unless by absolute miracle.

Mrs. Mbah came to launch the Enugu West Senatorial edition of her Mother and Child Healthcare and Welfare Project at Primary Healthcare Centre, Oji River, where she went around to see patients and babies, as well as interact with two-day-old newborns and their nursing mothers who had been mobilised for the event. During that function at the Health Centre, the governor’s wife noticed the newborn and jumped into action, riding with the baby and mother to Enugu to try to salvage the situation through her Custos Care Foundation.

The governor’s wife, who kept an eye on the infant, also instructed the hospital and her Foundation’s medical staff to go to every length to save the kid’s life, regardless of the expense. For the ecstatic mother, the hospital, and the governor’s wife and her Foundation, it was a prayer answered when mother and child were discharged on March 29, which happened to be Good Friday. Mrs. Rapuluchukwu Mmedo, unable to contain her emotions, hailed Mrs. Mbah’s intervention as a miracle, as they had previously given up hope.
