Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, alongside his deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai, and key members of his administration, intensified efforts on Wednesday to mobilize support for the chairmanship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission recently rescheduled the election from October 5 to September 21, citing a court ruling as the reason for the earlier date.
At the final campaign rally held at Michael Okpara Square in Enugu, Governor Mbah called on residents to rally behind the PDP candidates in all 17 local government areas. He emphasized the need for visionary leaders capable of steering the state out of poverty and promoting development, especially in rural communities.
According to Mbah, “The 17 local government areas of our state need strategic thinkers, builders, and compassionate leaders who can deliver development and prosperity. Our administration requires capable individuals who can implement our vision at the grassroots level.”
He urged residents to vote in large numbers, stressing that the success of his administration’s programs depends on strong leadership in the local governments. “The progress we are making at the state level needs to be consolidated. We are presenting you with candidates whose track records and integrity speak for themselves,” Mbah added.

Governor Mbah also cautioned against complacency, reminding voters not to take the election for granted. “Don’t assume PDP has already won. Every vote matters, and we need everyone to come out on September 21 and support our candidates,” he urged.
The governor expressed confidence that the PDP candidates would deliver meaningful results and improve the lives of people at the grassroots, ensuring that the dividends of democracy are felt across all local governments.
Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, the state chairman of the PDP, also expressed satisfaction with the support shown to the party in recent weeks. He revealed that the PDP had visited all 17 local governments, receiving overwhelming turnout and encouragement from residents.
Chukwunwike praised Governor Mbah for using his administration’s people-focused projects as part of the campaign, noting that these initiatives have resonated deeply with the electorate.
