Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has issued a stern directive to security agencies, mandating the immediate capture of the gunmen responsible for the assassination of the Ogbete Main Market Traders Association (OMMATA) Chairman, Chief Stephen Aniagu, within 48 hours.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday evening on the outskirts of Enugu metropolis, has left the community in shock. According to reports, Mr. Aniagu was brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen.

In an official statement released on Sunday, Governor Mbah condemned the act and vowed that no one involved in such a heinous crime would escape justice under his administration.
“My heart aches over the senseless killing of Chief Stephen Aniagu, the Chairman of OMMATA. His death is not only a loss to ogbete market association but also to the entire state,” the governor expressed in his message of condolence to Aniagu’s family and the market association.
Governor Mbah reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining security and holding criminals accountable. “I have directed the security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended within 48 hours. We have the resources, technology, and determination to track down and bring these criminals to justice.”
He continued, “Those who carried out this crime have made a grave mistake. They will not rest, nor will the government, until justice is served. The state will not tolerate such wickedness, and those involved will meet their downfall sooner than they expect.”
The governor also urged the people of Enugu to continue their lawful activities, assuring them that the security of lives and property remains his administration’s top priority.
In his final remarks, Governor Mbah paid tribute to Chief Aniagu’s service to his community and state. “Chief Aniagu was a dedicated leader, and his contributions will not be forgotten. We stand with his family, OMMATA, and the people of Enugu during this difficult time. Rest assured, his killers will face the full weight of the law.”
