Residents of Agu Umabor in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State are calling on Governor Peter Mbah for urgent assistance after gully erosion cut off their only access road, leaving the community isolated from the rest of the state.
In a press release on Monday, signed by Abonyi Gilbert Emeka and Ogbu Christopher, the President and Secretary General of the Agu Umabor Elites Group, the community described the condition as dire, appealing for immediate intervention to prevent further danger.
“We wish to bring to the attention of the Enugu State Government and the public the critical state of the Agu Umabor-Eha-Alumona-Breme-Mbu-Ikem road in Nsukka Local Government Area,” the statement read.
The community highlighted that they had previously raised concerns earlier this year about the imminent collapse of the road, which has now become impassable due to severe erosion.
“Agu Umabor is home to approximately 100,000 law-abiding residents, mostly farmers. This road is our only route for transporting agricultural produce to the market, and its condition threatens our livelihoods.”
They further appealed to Governor Mbah and concerned individuals for help, stressing the urgency of the situation as the road’s condition is unlikely to endure the rest of the rainy season.
The community seeks swift action to restore the vital route and prevent further isolation that endangers their economy and well-being.
