Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, has pleaded not guilty to allegations of approving the printing of N684.5 million at a staggering rate of N18.96 billion. The plea came during his arraignment before Justice Maryann Anenih of the FCT High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday.
Facing a four-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Emefiele refutes accusations of disobeying the law with the purported aim of causing harm to the public during the implementation of the naira swap policy under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The EFCC further alleges Emefiele’s involvement in unlawfully authorizing the withdrawal of N124.8 billion from the Federation’s Consolidated Revenue Fund.
