El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele has initiated an investigation into bribery allegations involving members of his administration, including himself, aiming to combat corruption within the government. In a video shared on X.com, Bukele emphasized his commitment to rooting out corruption, stating, “It’s not the first, and it won’t be the last.”
Bukele, addressing his administration in Spanish, publicly called upon the Attorney General to investigate all members present, past, and future, stressing the importance of accountability. He expressed his fear of leaving behind a tainted legacy, citing past presidents who were remembered for their association with corruption.
“I refuse to be remembered as a corrupt leader,” Bukele affirmed, highlighting his determination to maintain integrity in his presidency. He emphasized the importance of not only refraining from corruption himself but also preventing others from engaging in corrupt practices.
