Edin Terzic Departs Borussia Dortmund

Edin Terzic, the former head coach of Borussia Dortmund, has officially resigned from his position with the club.

According to Sky Sports, Terzic submitted his resignation on Wednesday night, concluding a season in which the team reached the Champions League final.

Terzic met with Borussia Dortmund’s senior management on Thursday morning and left the meeting through the club offices’ back entrance after less than an hour.

The club released a statement confirming that Terzic requested the termination of his contract, which the club has agreed to honor.

In a heartfelt video posted on X, Terzic addressed the fans, saying, “It is incredibly painful for me to say this to all Black & Yellow fans, but today I am parting company with Borussia Dortmund.”

Reflecting on his tenure, he added, “It was a huge honor to win the DFB Cup with BVB and to lead this fantastic club to the Champions League final. After the game at Wembley, I asked for a meeting with the club’s senior management team because, after ten years at BVB – including five on the coaching staff and two and a half as head coach – I feel that the club’s new era should begin with a new man on the touchline.”

He continued, “Everyone close to me knows that this has been a very difficult decision for me to take over the last few weeks, but after intensive discussions, my fundamental feeling has not changed. I wish Borussia Dortmund all the best, and this isn’t goodbye – we’ll see you soon!”

Terzic’s tenure included an interim role at the end of the 2020-21 season and a permanent position starting before the 2022-23 season.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke praised Terzic’s contributions, stating, “Edin Terzic has done an outstanding job in his time at BVB, and we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Edin and I will always remain friends.”
