The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended four individuals linked to the tragic abduction and murder of Magnus Okeke, a student from Alex-Ekwueme Federal University (AE-FUNAI), Ikwo Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrests on June 20, 2024, in Abakaliki. “We have initiated a thorough investigation into this grievous matter, and four suspects have been detained so far,” Ukandu stated. “The victim’s body has been recovered and sent to the mortuary. Our investigation is ongoing to uncover the full details surrounding his death.”
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Elom Iyke Ubochi, provided further details in an official statement. According to Ubochi, Okeke, an extra-year student from the Department of Accountancy, was kidnapped on June 1, 2024. Despite extensive efforts to secure his safe return, his decomposed body was discovered on June 17 under a bridge at Ako stream in Nwakpu village, along the Ikwo/Abakaliki Road.

Ubochi condemned the act as exceptionally cruel and urged the public to assist with any information that might aid the ongoing investigation. “Security agencies have made arrests, but we appeal to anyone with pertinent information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice,” he said.
