Ebonyi State First Lady Condemns Abuse of Teenage Girls, Calls It a “Grave Violation of Human Dignity”

The First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Ogbonna Nwifuru, has condemned the abuse of two teenage girls in Ojiegbe Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, where they were publicly stripped and flogged for allegedly stealing chickens. Mrs. Nwifuru expressed her shock at the incident, which surfaced in a viral video, describing the act as “deeply troubling” and “a grave violation of human dignity.”

 

She stressed that every resident, especially young girls and women, has the right to live without fear, abuse, or mistreatment and stated that such actions are unacceptable across Ebonyi State. Mrs. Nwifuru assured the public that the current administration is committed to ensuring justice for the victims.

The First Lady commended the swift actions of the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Anthonia A. Uche-Anya, and her team, who have already arrested key suspects, Dennis Ali and Ituma Sunday. She urged local leaders to prioritize the well-being of the victims and to actively prevent similar incidents in the future.

 

Mrs. Nwifuru’s foundation, BERWO, remains dedicated to working with relevant agencies to support victims of abuse and advocate for the rights and welfare of women and girls. She extended her sympathy to the affected families and reaffirmed her commitment to pursuing justice for survivors of gender-based violence.
