Nigerian artist, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, made headlines as he evaded arrest by leaping over a gate during a confrontation with Lagos State Police Command operatives on Tuesday.
The incident unfolded following a complaint from a car dealer whom Portable owed money. The singer had initiated the purchase of a N27 million G-Wagon, paying an initial sum with a promise to settle the balance later.
In a video circulated on social media, Portable engaged in a friendly exchange with officers before swiftly scaling a nearby gate and fleeing the scene. He was later apprehended by police and escorted into a waiting vehicle.
Confirming the arrest, State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated, ‘Portable has been arrested. He bought a G-Wagon for N27m, paid N13m, and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was faulty. We arrested him today.’
This isn’t Portable’s first brush with the law. In 2023, he faced charges of assault on an ex-signee, eventually being apprehended at his Ota residence after evading authorities.
Known for his controversial persona, Portable rose to fame with his hit single ‘Zazoo Zehh,’ featuring rapper Olamide, in 2021.
