Dr. Oluebube A Chukwu, the founder of a charitable organisation in Abia State, has praised Governor Alex Chioma Otti for keeping his pledge to pay off the backlog of arrears owing to pensioners in the state. He claims that by doing so, civil servants will be encouraged to work better. In response to Governor Otti’s announcement that “never again will Abia Pensioners be owed their pensions” during the April edition of the monthly media chat held at Government House Umuahia, Chukwu made this known. The governor claimed that by paying the arrears inherited from his predecessors and pledging to continue paying them as they become due, he was staying true to his promise and commitment to altering the narrative of governance in Abia.
In an interview with Newsmen Umuahia, the founder of the Oluebube A Chukwu Foundation hinted that Governor Otti has always believed that a worker deserves his wages and that his decision to pay off pension arrears less than a year after taking office is a concrete example of his commitment to giving the people of the State more benefits of democracy. The State’s pensioners, some of whom had not received their benefits since 2014, are relieved that Chukwu has noted the payment of these arrears.

According to him,” By clearing the backlog of pension arrears and paying workers as at when due and regularly, Governor Otti will not only be motivating civil servants to perform better, but also boosting the economy of the State as the payment of these accumulated pension has greater positive impact on the economy of the State as well as improving the living standards of Abians” he said.
