In his ongoing efforts to promote peace in the Southeast, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has called on Ndi Igbo to reject any calls for anti-government protests. Kalu emphasized that avoiding such protests aligns with the best interests of the Southeast region.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) South East Stakeholders’ Meeting in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Sunday, Kalu highlighted the significant contributions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC-led administration to the Igbo community. He noted that the current government has provided more appointments and support to the region than previous administrations and is actively working on granting an additional state to the Southeast.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu also mentioned that the call for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is receiving attention. He urged the people to avoid participating in anti-government activities, which could jeopardize the progress made so far.
Kalu stated, “In addition to our supportive legislative activities, President Tinubu has implemented bold reforms to stabilize the economy. The unification of the FOREX market and redirecting funds to critical sectors like healthcare, education, and infrastructure have boosted investor confidence, making the Nigerian Stock Exchange one of the top-performing exchanges globally.
“Significant investments have modernized our security forces, resulting in the release of over 4,600 hostages, neutralization of more than 9,300 hostiles, and the arrest of over 7,000 terrorists and bandits.
“The National Assembly, under APC leadership, will continue to leverage legislative interventions to reposition the Southeast and the entire nation. Efforts are underway to grant an additional state to the Southeast. The call for the release of MNK is seen as a key step in resolving our security challenges. We must thank all who support this effort, including our Governors, Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, and Ohaneze Ndigbo. We must not relent until this goal is achieved.
“The recent appointments of numerous distinguished individuals from the region reflect the party’s commitment to inclusivity.
“In light of the remarkable achievements of the president and our party in the past year, I urge the Southeast region to remain steadfast and reject any calls for revolt against a president who has done so much for our country. We must stand united in support of his visionary leadership.”
