The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed deep outrage over the tragic attack on the convoy of Ginger Onwusibe, a House of Representatives member from Abia State. The assault, which occurred on Sunday night in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area, resulted in the death of a police officer assigned to Onwusibe.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu condemned the ambush carried out by unidentified gunmen. He emphasized the urgent need for an in-depth investigation to apprehend those responsible and ensure justice is served.
The targeted vehicle did not carry Onwusibe, who represents the Isiala North and South Federal Constituency, at the time of the attack. However, the loss of the security officer underscores the growing threats faced by public officials and their aides.
Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency, highlighted the critical importance of safeguarding leaders and their teams. He stressed that such acts of violence must not be tolerated, particularly in Abia State, often referred to as “God’s Own State.”
“No form of violence or criminality can be accepted in Abia or any other part of Nigeria,” Kalu stated. “The perpetrators of this heinous act must face the full weight of the law.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and colleagues of the slain officer during this difficult time,” Kalu said. “We must work together to foster a safer and more secure environment for all Nigerians.”
