Court Remands 19 Year Old Man Over Alleged Possession Of Pistol In Ebonyi State

On Monday, the Abakaliki Chief Magistrates’ Court ruled that Uzo IfeanyiChukwu, 19, who is being prosecuted for illegal firearm possession, should be placed under remand.

Nonetheless, Ifeanyi Chukwu, who is charged with two counts of conspiracy and gun possession, was not granted a plea by the court.

Because the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the accusation, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Lilian Ogodo ordered that the defendant be placed under detention in the penitentiary center.

Ogodo further requested that the Department of Public Prosecution receive legal counsel regarding the case file and related materials.

Ogodo postponed the issue until March 29.

Prior to this, the defendant committed the offense on February 25 at Aguogboriga, Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi, according to the prosecutor, ASP Eze Ndubuaku, who testified in court.

According to Ndubuaku, Ifeanyi Chukwu had a locally made pistol in his illegal possession on that fateful day.

Section 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, CAP R 11 Laws of the Federation, 2006, was violated, according to the prosecutor.

Mr. Solomon Nwogbaga, the defense attorney, begged the judge to give his client bail.

However, Ndubuaku, the prosecutor, objected to the bail request, stating that the prisoner might leave and cause further problems for society.
